Taiwan Spinners Association Says Textile Industry Attacks Mainland Key 1 Year in 2011

Huang Weiji, secretary-general of the Taiwan Textile Industry Development Association (Spinning), said that the early collection list of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) was formally implemented on New Year's Day, and 2011 was a crucial year for Taiwanese textiles to fully enter and attack the mainland market.

In order to actively assist Taiwan's textile manufacturers to enter the Hong Kong and mainland markets, the Spinners will lead 12 Taiwan's high-quality apparel and apparel manufacturers to Hong Kong to participate. Huang Weike today told CNTA in Hong Kong about the idea of assisting manufacturers to enter the mainland.

Huang Weichai pointed out that according to the ECFA Early Collection List, in Taiwan’s more than 500 tax reductions on the mainland, textiles accounted for 136 items. The tariffs on these 136 Taiwanese textiles exported to the mainland will be 10% to 17%, divided into 2 to 10%. All three years have been reduced to zero tariffs.

Huang Weike said that this will allow Taiwan's textile manufacturers to gradually enjoy the same tariff-free treatment as mainland Chinese manufacturers, which will greatly increase the competitiveness of Taiwan's textiles in the mainland market.

Huang Weichai revealed that the Spinning Association will fully assist manufacturers in entering the mainland in 2011, including intensively leading Taiwanese textile manufacturers to Shanghai, Beijing and other places to participate in the mainland national and international large-scale textile exhibitions, as well as participating in textile exhibitions in various provinces and cities. Spinning will continue to lead Taiwanese manufacturers to visit famous brands of garment factories across the continent one by one, develop small factories in the region, and actively seek for the combined development of upstream, downstream and downstream textile manufacturers.

Huang Weichai pointed out that 2011 is the key year for Taiwan's textile industry to attack the mainland at full speed. It is expected that the second and third quarters of 2011 will show results.

In addition, Huang Weiji said that the mainland textile industry has a promising future. According to the contents of the “12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015)”, the mainland textile industry will continue to grow at an annual rate of 8%.

In 2010, the total value of textile exports from the mainland reached 205.9 billion U.S. dollars, and the total domestic demand consumption amounted to more than 800 billion U.S. dollars.
