june is made for kids month!

I’ve had such a blast joining in on Me Made May! It’s been fantastic to embrace wearing and styling the clothes I’ve made for myself. Since switching our closets to spring and summer attire at the end of April, it’s been delightful to rediscover all those old favorites I hadn’t worn in a while. Plus, now that spring is finally here, I’ve realized I actually have arms and legs—no more bulky sweaters hiding under layers of long johns! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen Rae and me chatting recently about extending this idea of celebrating handmade clothing to our kids. Inspired by the concept, we’re launching a new project called Made for Kids Month in June, and we’d love for you to join in! The goal is simple: throughout the month of June, let’s encourage our kids to wear and appreciate their handmade garments. Whether these pieces were crafted by parents, grandparents, friends, or even the kids themselves, we want them to feel proud of what they’re wearing. Here’s how you can participate: 1. Jump in however works best for you and your family. There’s no pressure here—it’s all about having fun together! 2. Let your kids express their unique styles. Mismatched outfits? Bold color combos? Who cares! Kids naturally love picking out their own clothes, and this project encourages creativity and self-expression. As S often says, mismatched socks help her battle “that blah feeling.” We could all use more of that, couldn’t we? 3. You don’t need to participate daily. For instance, S’s school has strict dress codes, so she won’t be able to rock handmade clothes much during weekdays. We’ll focus on weekends instead, when we have more flexibility. 4. Remember, this should be enjoyable for everyone—including you! If your child isn’t interested, that’s perfectly fine. No forcing anyone—let’s keep it light and fun. 5. Share photos on Instagram, the new Made for Kids Month Flickr group, Twitter, or your blog using the hashtag #madeforkidsmonth. Feel free to post in multiple places! 6. This project offers a chance to discuss with your kids where their clothes come from. Similar to Fashion Revolution Day, we can teach them about the people behind their clothing. Whether you’ve sewn just a few items or create entire wardrobes, talking about their clothing helps build pride and appreciation for handmade creations. 7. Set aside some time this month to make something together purely for enjoyment. It doesn’t even have to be clothes! Painting, crafting, or even taking silly photos can spark creativity and strengthen bonds. 8. Perhaps your kids will feel inspired to try their hand at sewing or designing their own clothes.
