core wardrobe: hollywood trousers

The other day, S and I put together a fun little video showcasing the wool Hollywood Trousers I made for myself last winter. I’ve always felt like there’s a gap in my wardrobe when it comes to well-fitting trousers in the colors I gravitate towards. For years now, as a true-blue New Yorker, my go-to palette has been navy, black, and cream, often paired with camel tones. My aim was to create trousers that would pair seamlessly with my collection of crewneck cashmere sweaters in similar shades since those are staples I rely on all winter long. Given how chilly it gets where I live, layering is key, and having versatile pieces makes dressing easier. In the video, you'll see some of the styling options I experimented with—mixing and matching the trousers with different colored sweaters. It’s all about creating combinations that feel cohesive yet playful. While navy and black might not appeal to everyone, don’t shy away from experimenting with your own favorite hues. If you’re not into my subdued color scheme, why not try something bold like bright pink or emerald green? As long as the colors complement each other, you can still achieve that mix-and-match versatility. I’ll dive deeper into this concept in future posts. If you're inspired to make your own Hollywood Trousers, you can grab the pattern here. And if you're looking for something slightly different, we also have the Peckham Trousers, which offer a sleeker fit with an adjustable waistband. Alternatively, check out the Montauk Trousers for a more laid-back vibe with their elastic waist. This is just one piece of what I consider my foundational wardrobe. There's more to come on this topic, both here and over on Instagram. Stay tuned as I share more insights into building a timeless wardrobe that works for you.
