melanie’s enmore top
Melanie from the Advisors Circle took the Enmore Top pattern and gave it a subtle twist to achieve a runway-inspired aesthetic. Here she is to explain how she customized the design. When I first saw the Enmore pattern, it reminded me of some high-end designer pieces I’ve been bookmarking on my Pinterest boards. Specifically, I was inspired by a Chanel blouse I've had my eye on. I knew this pattern could easily be transformed into a chic summer top. To mimic the Chanel-inspired look, I used a silky polyester fabric for the main part of the top and paired it with some black linen for the collar. For the collar pattern, I borrowed from a dress I already own that fits well around my neck—Butterick 6655—and adjusted it by adding extra seam allowance to the bottom. I cut two pieces, interfacing one of them to give it structure. Once I assembled the collar, I left openings at the shoulder seams and neckline where the top portion would later be inserted. After turning it right side out, I pressed the seam allowances of the openings to ensure a clean, smooth curve. Modifying the Enmore pattern wasn’t overly complicated. I placed the collar on my neck and measured upwards from where the original pattern would have ended. Given that I’m relatively short between my shoulders and bust, I only needed to add about an inch in height. This adjustment applied to both the front, back, and shelf bra pieces. Additionally, I raised the armholes by ¾ inches for a bit more coverage. This change also altered the sewing sequence slightly. First, I attached the shelf bra, leaving the shoulders and front open while understitching. Then, I basted the open edges together and sewed the outer layer of the collar onto the body of the top, pressing the seam upward into the collar. To avoid visible stitching, I hand-stitched the inner edges instead of relying on topstitching. However, you could also use pins or opt for topstitching if you prefer that look. Lastly, I sewed on two small buttons at the back collar and created matching thread loops. I think this variation adds a touch of elegance to the Enmore pattern, requiring minimal adjustments to achieve a polished look. While having some sparkly pink tweed in my stash would’ve taken it closer to a full Chanel-inspired piece, I still love how this version turned out!
