What should I look for in a healthy shoe? During pregnancy, especially in the last three months, it's important to choose shoes that accommodate swelling. The size should be based on the length of your foot, but also consider how your feet expand when sitting, standing, and walking. Aim for about 10 mm extra length. Opt for shoes with a round toe and a soft, wide upper. Open styles like laced or Velcro shoes are best, followed by elastic or adjustable-width options. In the first six months, you can wear more casual shoes, but in the second half, go for supportive and comfortable styles. Heel height should ideally be between 15-30 mm. While flat shoes are acceptable, higher heels can cause discomfort in the heel area due to increased weight and shifted center of gravity. Choose non-slip, durable soles for better support.
